Beyond Somerville: The Good, the Bad and the Weird at Brimfield

Longtime readers know that I love the Brimfield Antique Fair. It’s a mile-long festival of antiques, vintage goods and just plain old junk and you never know what you’re going to find. I saw some really lovely items on my most recent trip and some pretty weird stuff too. You can see the highlights in the photo gallery below.

For those looking to do a little treasure hunting of their own, Brimfield returns twice more this year (July 9-14 and September 3-8). And I’ve got all the information you need to do the show like a pro.

Have you ever been to Brimfield? What’s the best (or weirdest) things you’ve ever seen (or purchased)?

  1. If you had been to Brimfield 20-30 years ago, the comparison to today’s Brimfield is a joke!!.. now its 95% junk and yard sale goods.. used to be some museum quality finds there, really rare unbelievable antiques…now its rusty stars, painted saws, old rusty farm implements and mostly people looking to by something for $25 and re purpose it into some ugly new found object.. Its pitiful and to me … weary-some to look through all the garbage that is brought there in the name of “antiques” …people used to know enough to throw it in a landfill … now its… sorry its just plain junk..another aspect of ” dumbing down ” of today’s aesthetic values like everything else is in the world today…so the mundane and mediocre is celebrated as great ..nobody knows anymore if the Emperor has any clothes…
