While it’s terrific to see so many Somerville businesses honored, I would have liked to see some of the squares outside of Davis get some love as well. There are top-rate restaurants and burgeoning businesses in nearly every corner of the city and hopefully as they become more established, they too will get ranked among the best in Boston.
Congratulations to all the Somerville businesses that made the list!

Could not agree more. Pescatore’s in Ball Square is my new favorite. In one sense, I’m glad the “hipsters”(used by people who think they are) have not been pumping this little jewel. Sometimes the lines and wait are annoying, but the addition of the outdoor seating is great.
And by the way dear Editor………..what are you doing at 7:15 tonight?
Joe Lynch
Hi there! I’ll have to check out Pescatore’s, thanks for the recommendation. I agree too that on the one hand, I’m glad some of my favorite places are not overrun with people, but I do think they deserve recognition for being awesome as well.
Tonight? I think we’re on for next week if that still works for you! Let me know what time I should come by and anything else I should do to prepare. Thanks!
Sound Bites? They don’t have good service, and their food isn’t that great either. Ball Square Cafe is right next door and much, much better.
Of the two, I prefer Ball Sq Cafe. They at least have the decency not to rush you through your meal with passive aggressively cleaning your table, dropping the bill, etc.
Of course I live around the corner and haven’t been to either in like a year. It’s a lot cheaper and easier just to go to Kelly’s Diner.
The Neighborhood in Union is much more worth the hassle. I have no idea why it never shows up on these best of lists.
It seems that Union is one of the most forgotten Somerville squares, despite having so much going on! I haven’t been to breakfast over in Ball Square in a while, but it’s on my list to revisit all of these places soon.
As far as Saloon goes, I feel like it has great potential, but the only time I went it was beyond crowded (like claustrophobia-inducing). I’d also like to try it again though!
For the record, I’m really ambivalent about Saloon, too.
