5 Things I Love in Somerville Right Now

There are many things I love about Somerville, but these are a few of my very favorites right now. What are yours?

Melting Snow
Much has been made of this terrible winter and I know I’m not alone when I say how happy I am that the snow is melting. Major kudos to the city for its snow removal efforts (see above) and for lifting the month-long snow emergency. I’m keeping a close eye on the #somsnow15 contest pile and can’t wait to see who wins. Not only because I’ll get to give them Union Square Donuts, but because it means I’ll have my yard back!

Sacco's inside

Flatbread and Sacco’s Bowl Haven
In addition to running the Beat, I’m an active Somerville Local First board member. We recently decided to get out and support a local business by having a fun night at Flatbread/Sacco’s Bowl Haven. It was the perfect antidote to a dreary winter evening.

Somerville Winter Farmers Market
There are only two weeks left to shop at the Somerville Winter Farmers Market, which takes place each Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Arts at the Armory. Stop by to stock up on fresh produce and locally made food. Then get ready for summer market season by catching up on the latest news about the forthcoming Assembly Farmers Market.

Creative Somerville Series February Kate and Mia

Creative Somerville Series
I met Mia Scharphie (above right) when I wrote about the now-defunct Creative Union co-working space that she helped run, and when she had the idea to create a speaker series highlighting local creative entrepreneurs, I jumped at the chance to help. We’re hosting our third Creative Somerville Series event (with co-sponsors Somerville Local First) this Thursday night at Aeronaut Brewing. The talk will feature Rose Mattos and Erin Heath of Forêt Design Studio and should be another fun and inspiring evening. Space is limited so get your free ticket now!

Highland Kitchen chocolate pudding

Chocolate Pudding at Highland Kitchen
Highland Kitchen and I moved into Somerville at the same time and it’s always been one of my absolute favorite restaurants here (or anywhere really). I was devastated to learn that they had discontinued the to-die-for-delicious chocolate pudding some months ago and was beyond excited to see it revived recently. If you haven’t had it, you should really run, not walk, to get some ASAP.
