As someone who works from home, I know how important it is to have a change of scenery from time to time. But it’s not always easy to find a cafe that offers Wi-Fi (free or paid) and has enough seats for everyone looking to settle in for a few hours. That’s where the Arts at the Armory Cafe (191 Highland Ave.) comes in.
Every time I’ve visited the cafe during the week, there’s plenty of seating and a friendly staff waiting to help get you a drink, snack or meal. The cozy space has an assortment of tables and chairs and even a couch for you to lounge on. Best of all? Free, reliable Wi-Fi–a rare find indeed.
On the weekends and at night, the cafe is usually bustling with people grabbing coffee while shopping at the Winter Farmers Market or sipping a locally brewed beer while listening to a musical act. The cafe frequently hosts musical performances, jazz jams and comedy shows, usually featuring local talent. There are even salsa dancing lessons in the cafe on Monday nights.
One of the reasons I really like the cafe is that it’s centrally located in Somerville, so it’s easy to get to from anywhere in town. The convenient location and free parking also makes it a great place to connect with people for meetings.
The cafe offers a selection of coffee and espresso drinks, tasty teas, sandwiches, salads, baked goods and beer and wine. The bright, cheerful mugs the cafe uses makes it feel like you’re having tea at a friend’s house. And because the cafe is associated with Arts at the Armory, every dollar you spend there goes directly to supporting the organization’s programming.
If you haven’t checked out the cafe as a place to work or just hang out, I recommend doing so the next time you’re nearby. And let me know what you think!
