I absolutely love Indian food, but I hate the heavy, overly full feeling I get often after eating it. So when Dosa N Curry (formerly Dosa Temple) opened at 447 Somerville Ave., I was really excited to try this exclusively vegetarian restaurant that promised a lighter, but still satisfying meal.
Don’t let the outside (or inside) of Dosa N Curry fool you, while it might not look like much, the food is flavorful and fresh. I had prompt, friendly service when dining there on a recent weeknight, which goes a long way in my book. I love cooking, so great service is critically important to any dining out experience that I have.
I ordered the Spring Dosa, which was a crepe stuffed with cabbage, carrot, potato and onion, rolled and sliced. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, just slightly crunchy and not mushy at all. I especially loved the liberal use of cilantro. My husband ordered the Temple Special Masala Dosa, which was a rolled and sliced crepe with spicy chutney, sauteed onion, tomato and potato. Both dishes were very flavorful, but still simple and light.
We really enjoyed the sauces that came on the side, especially the coconut one, and the soup was tasty as well. While the portions were large, they were actually very appropriately sized for a meal made up mostly of vegetables.
Dosa N Curry has an extensive menu with something for everyone and I know I’ll be back to try some of the appetizers, more dosas and a curry or two!
