Meaghan Sinclair and Harmony Dawn, the women behind Booze Époque, a Somerville-based boutique cocktail company, are all about using delicious, high-quality ingredients in their drinks. They handcraft a lot of what goes into the cocktails and often tap local resources, like other small businesses, for inspiration and ingredients. And each month they write a seasonally appropriate recipe for Beat readers.
This month’s drink is called Stormy Weather and was inspired by the color of the sky after a summer thunderstorm. It contains a bunch of really floral flavors, and is a blended drink, two elements of summer that we wanted to include.
½ ounce Cherry Heering
1¼ ounce Greylock gin
½ ounce creme de violette
1/4 ounce Art in the Age Sage
½ ounce lime juice
½ ounce simple syrup
squeeze of lemon
Blend Cherry Heering and Greylock gin with one-third cup ice and pour into martini glass. Blend creme de violette and Sage with one-quarter cup ice and pour into martini glass. Mix half-ounce lime juice with half-ounce simple syrup in jigger and pour over the top of the drink. Squeeze wedge of lemon on top. Garnish with sage leaf and lavender flower.
P.S. Sinclair and Dawn will soon be hosting Creating Signature Cocktail classes at their home base, Kitchen Inc. (201 Somerville Ave.). They have three classes planned right now for July, August and September. Full details will be posted here soon.
