I’m constantly amazed by the creativity that abounds in Somerville and it’ll be on full display this weekend at the Somerville Arts Council’s ArtBeat festival. The event features music, art and activities beginning on Friday night and continuing throughout Saturday in Davis Square.
This year’s ArtBeat theme is “micro,” which gives participants a jumping off point to express themselves. There will be micro-themed activities like a micro-museum, a demonstration on how to make instruments using microprocessors and a flea circus.
In addition, more than a dozen bands and dance troupes will perform throughout ArtBeat. The festival has fun for all ages, with everything from kids’ sing-alongs and puppet storytelling to swing, salsa and jazz music to poetry and humor.
ArtBeat features more than 75 craft vendors and community organizations lining the street. And of course, there will be food–and lots of it. The event is free, but there is a $3 suggested donation that goes to support this free public event.
See you there!
