Somerville is home to literally hundreds of artists working in mediums as diverse as painting and illustrating to sculpture and puppet-making to photography and fiber arts. And this weekend, you can see more than 100 artists as Brickbottom and Joy Street Studios open their doors to the community.
The 25th Annual Brickbottom Open Studios will showcase the work of 60 artists in that building and 50 artists in the nearby Joy Street Studios. The event takes place this Saturday and Sunday, November 17 and 18, from noon-6 p.m.
The Somerville-wide Open Studios weekend held each May is such a hit that it only makes sense for the many artists’ studios around town to host their own Open Studios in the off-season. And the Brickbottom/Joy Street event comes right when people are beginning to think about purchasing holiday presents.
Open Studios attendees can expect to see artists displaying their work in the spaces that they create it in. The artists will be on hand to discuss their creative process as well as demonstrate their techniques. Much of the work will be for sale.
P.S. We love Open Studios and have written several posts highlighting artists from the annual May event. You can read them here. Also, be on the lookout for an upcoming post on the Vernon Street Open Studios on December 1 and 2!
