Craft Brew Tasting Celebrates All Things Local

The T-shirts said it all: Eat local. Drink local. Be local. Local was the word of the night at the Hyper-Local Craft Brew Tasting on Saturday at the Armory on Highland Ave. Brewers like Slumbrew (Somerville) and Night Shift Brewing (Everett) served samples of their delicious libations next to Kickass Cupcakes (Somerville) and Taza Chocolate (Somerville) in an event that highlighted so many of the good things about living here.

There were so many incredible beers, wines, ciders and meads to taste that my favorite kept changing at seemingly every booth. Two unique stand-outs that I had never tried before: the Bantam cider that was like apple champagne and Moonlight Meadery’s heavenly honey wine that was like liquid gold.

The event was absolutely packed and the Armory’s balcony provided a fun lookout spot later in the evening as the crowd swelled and grew louder under the influence of so many good, local brews.

I remember the first time I ever saw the Armory nearly five years ago when it was still being transformed into what it is today. Then, it was dark and empty, while now it has become a real center of the community, a hub to celebrate all of the good things happening in this city that we love so much.

What was your favorite part of the Hyper-Local Craft Brew Tasting?

  1. One thing I love about local businesses in Somerville is when they collaborate!! SLUMBREW & Taza did this on the Porter Square Porter. Awesome!
