Local is for Lovers Market Goes Back to School

Somerville Local First is all about fostering an environment where local, independent businesses thrive and one of the key ways this manifests is at Local is for Lovers Markets. These markets take place several times a year, are free to attend and give local artists, craftspeople and business owners an opportunity to share their work with the community. And to kick off the new school year, Somerville Local First is hosting a Local is for Lovers Market this Sunday at the Arts for the Armory!

The Back to School Market features a long list of diverse vendors selling everything from handmade soap and beautiful jewelry to baby items and books for kids. And to keep the little ones entertained while parents shop, Knucklebones will be on hand with its play area.

Some of the Local is for Lovers vendors are offering special items and deals to celebrate the Back to School theme. Somerville-based Kwohtations is creating handmade cards with sayings like “Thanks for being my study buddy” and “Sorry you’re overeducated and underemployed” that will be available for $5 each or five for $20. Magpie Kids will be having a sale on Somerville onesies and kids T-shirts as well as back to school items like lunch boxes, snack bags and bamboo utensils. Get ready for the spooky season with items like wall plaques, coasters and magnets featuring images from local gravestones made by The Gravestone Girls.

In addition to the usual fun that a Local is for Lovers Market brings, this one is extra special. Somerville Local First is also gearing up for its big annual fundraiser, Harvest Fest, a food and beer tasting event on October 18 at the Armory (191 Highland Ave.). And as a thank you for attending this weekend’s market, Somerville Local First will be hiding two tickets to Harvest Fest! Find them and you’ll get to attend one of the area’s premier fall tasting events for free.

P.S. Even if you don’t find the tickets, you can still come to Harvest Fest by purchasing tickets online. Or volunteer your services for one session and attend the other free. Interested in sponsoring the event? We’ve got opportunities for that too.
