If there was a such thing as the dog days of winter, I’d venture to guess that we’re in them right now. The days are growing a little longer, but temperatures are brisk and without much snow, winter activities are limited. Luckily there are a ton of fun events happening in Somerville this weekend to help you shake off the winter doldrums. Highlights are below and a full listing of this weekend’s events can be found on our calendar.
Aeronaut Brewing Beach Party: We may be in the dark depths of winter but that’s not stopping Aeronaut from hosting a Beach Party on Friday night. Come down to the brewery for beer, including a limited edition mango saison, seafood from Captain Marden’s Mobile Cuisine and music from All of the Animals and Scubaphone.
Yoga + Music + Chocolate = Bliss: Wind down the workweek with a late night yoga session at Brooklyn Boulders Somerville featuring music from Jason Cohen and treats from Taza Chocolate. The yoga practice is being led by Carolyn Little and will include elements of Vinyasa, Qi Gong and Yin.
Lightsaber Build Party: Parts and Crafts is hosting a family-friendly Lightsaber Build Party on Saturday afternoon that features a crash course in electronics, magnetism and basic circuit design. In addition to taking home a cool project, attendees will be doing good, as the event is also a fundraiser. Two-thirds of the cost of each sword will go toward supplementing sliding scale and reduced cost programs for kids in Somerville and the greater Boston area.
ONCE in Valhalla 5: Monsters Included: Cuisine en Locale is again hosting its 10-course ONCE in Valhalla viking feast on Saturday night. Enjoy Nordic-influenced locavore fare while jamming to live music from 7 Hills Renaissance Wind Band and Charming Disaster. Cuisine says, “Cloaks and drinking horns optional, loose waistbands essential.”
Musical Brunch: Enjoy your morning meal with a side of music when you dine at Johnny D’s, the Burren and Highland Kitchen on Sunday mornings. You’ll get to enjoy jazz, tunes from the Beatles and country and bluegrass with your eggs, pancakes and mimosas.
The Sketchbook Show: Come to the Nave Gallery Annex on Sunday afternoon to check out its current exhibit, The Sketchbook Show, which offers a peek into artists’ working minds. It’s being curated by and features many wonderful Somerville artists (like Rachel Mello, whose work is pictured above) and runs throughout January.
