Weekend 11.14-11.16: Art, Music & Theater

One of the best parts about living in Somerville is being surrounded by so many creative people. From painters and fiber artists to musicians and actors, this city is stacked with talent. And much of it will be on display this weekend at art exhibits, live music performances and theater shows. A selection of the weekend’s events are highlighted below and you can find the rest on our full calendar. Have fun out there!

Vernon Objects


Vernon Street Studios Anniversary Exhibit: Celebrate 40 years of Vernon Street Studios at the opening of its Anniversary Exhibit at the Somerville Museum. More than 60 artists are participating in the show, which will be on display for the rest of November and most of December. Learn more about Vernon Street’s past and present.

The Trojan Women: Theatre@First presents The Trojan Women, which “explores the true reason why men go to war and who their actions affect the most.” You can see the show tonight, tomorrow and Sunday (as well as next week) at Unity Somerville in Davis Square.

Grooversity Festival 2014: The Grooversity Festival, which aims to bring awareness to issues of education and social change though music, is back on Saturday. The Festival includes performances by master drummers, local musicians and Somerville Public School ensembles. There will also be workshops throughout the afternoon.

Novemberfest 2014: Aeronaut Brewing hosts an afternoon and evening of Americana music from performers like Greg Klyma, Eric Royer’s One Man Band and Fendrick & Peck on Saturday. Mei Mei Street Kitchen will be on hand to feed hungry attendees.

Daddy Jones Sign


Moga = Men + Yoga: Detox to Retox: Some.Yoga.Studio and Daddy Jones Bar are teaming up for a yoga class followed by beer on Sunday morning. The event aims to bring awareness to issues of men’s health. The class is donation based and includes a free draft beer at Daddy Jones afterward.

Wrap Around Sale: The Nave Gallery is kicking off the Wrap Around Sale of knitted, crocheted and sewn goods with a dessert reception on Sunday afternoon. Proceeds from the sale of the handmade goods benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition.
