Weekend 2.21-2.23: Movies, Art & Chili

After getting hit with snow several times in the last couple of weeks, it looks like we may be in for a bit of a warm-up this weekend. That should provide some incentive to get out and enjoy the events happening in Somerville. There’s art on view, movies to watch, chili to sample and comedy to make you laugh. Have fun out there!

Love Shack: Come to the Nave Gallery Annex (53 Chester St.) on Friday from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. to see its current show, Love Shack. The exhibit, which runs through March 1, features work by artists exploring themes surrounding Valentine’s Day and love.

Somerville Theatre Centennial Celebration: The Somerville Theatre’s Centennial Celebration continues on Friday night with a double header. The theater is showing the Marx Brothers’ Duck Soup at 8 p.m. and A Night at the Opera at 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 for each movie.

Somerville Winter Farmers Market: The Somerville Winter Farmers Market is open this and every Saturday through March 29 from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Arts at the Armory (191 Highland Ave.).

Animal Nature: Come to the Washington Street Art Center (321 Washington St.) this Saturday from noon-4 p.m. to see Animal Nature. The show features photographic work by Ileana Hernandez Hernandez.

Somerville Mobile Farmers Market: The Somerville Mobile Farmers Market is open this Saturday at the Mystic Head Start Classroom (35 C Memorial Road) from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Mystic residents and EBT cardholders can purchase goods for half-off.

ComedyCazi: The latest installment of ComedyCazi is this Saturday at 8 p.m. at Comicazi (407 Highland Ave.) and features three original comedies: Slellar Journeys, Dork Ages and Closing Time. The show is recommended for mature audiences, tickets are $10 cash at the door ($8 in advance) and doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Somerville Theatre Centennial Celebration: The Somerville Theatre’s Centennial Celebration continues on Saturday night with a concert by Israeli musician Asaf Avidan. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $27.

Snow Day 2013

Sunday

Chili Takedown: Come to the Arts at the Armory (191 Highland Ave.) on Sunday from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. for the Chili Takedown. Attendees will get to sample 20 to 30 different varieties of chili and vote for their favorites. Tickets are $15.
