Though you’d hardly know it looking at the #somsnow15 pile in my yard, it’s almost April. The first week of spring gave us some glimpses of the warmer weather to come–is it just me or does 45 degrees suddenly feel hot? And this weekend has fun events popping up all over the city, from theater and music shows to beer and mustache bashes, there’s something for everyone. Highlights from the weekend are below and a full listing can be found on our Calendar of Events. Enjoy!
Boston General Store Pop-Up: Stop by Forge Baking Company on Friday, Saturday or Sunday to visit the Boston General Store Pop-Up featuring handmade housewares, food items and cooking tools. Forge will be open for business during the event and will be whipping up special treats like malted milkshakes made in collaboration with Gracie’s Ice Cream.
Post-Meridian Radio Players Spring Adventure Spectacular: You have three opportunities this weekend to take in the Post-Meridian Radio Players Spring Adventure Spectacular. Featuring two plays, The Mysterious Traveler and The Scarlet Pimpernel, the shows take place on Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday night at Responsible Grace in Davis Square.
Somerville Winter Farmers Market: This weekend is your last chance to shop at the Somerville Winter Farmers Market before it closes for the season, making it the perfect time to stock up on all your favorite local goodies. You can also visit the Friends of the Public Library’s Cooks and Gardeners Book Sale fundraiser at this week’s market, which is open on Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Arts at the Armory.
Wig and ‘Stache Bash: Don a wig or mustache (all-natural or faux is fine) and head to Cuisine en Locale on Saturday night for the Wig and ‘Stache Bash to support the Healey School. Enjoy food from local businesses like Redbones, Petsi Pies and Capones, a tasting from Ball Square Fine Wines and more drinks from the cash bar. The money raised at the 21-plus event will go to fund the Healey’s off-site learning programs.
School of HONK!: The founders of Second Line Brass Band and Somerville’s annual HONK! Festival have organized a weekly version of the event where musicians of all ages and ability levels are invited to play and parade around town. School of HONK! meets at Sprout outside of Davis Square on Sunday afternoons for this fun, inspiring event.
Pretty Things Springtime Party: Pretty Things is hosting a Springtime Party this Sunday afternoon at The Independent to celebrate the seasonal release of its Fluffy White Rabbits brew. Ring in the new season with a “Name the Bunny” haiku contest, tunes from DJ John Funke, cupcakes and beer.
