Weekend 6.29-7.1: Threshold, Falafel & Boston Handmade

I had a great vacation, but I’m so happy to be home in Somerville! This weekend looks hot and summery, the perfect weather to hit up the Union Square Farmers Market, Boston Handmade and FA.M.ily Fun Day on Saturday. If theater is more your thing, check out Threshold at the Armory tonight. Happy weekend!

Threshold: The Boston Circus Guild presents Threshold, “an evening of adventurous theater, wherein five acrobats push themselves to the edge of human physicality to illustrate the feats of daring that all people attempt in finding connections with one another,” at the Armory on Highland Ave. on Friday, June 29. Doors are at 8 p.m., the show begins at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance/$35 on the day of the show (standing for $15 in advance/$25 day of through Brown Paper Tickets).

Ball Square Fine Wines & Liquors Tastings: Stop by Ball Square Fine Wines & Liquors from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Friday, June 29, to sample New England’s own Long Trail Brewery’s Imperial Series. If wine is more your thing, the July Wines of the Month will be available to sample from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. also on Friday, June 29. Or pop in on Saturday, June 30, from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. to sample Cold River vodka and gin. All tastings are free!

Amsterdam Falafel Soft Opening: According to Grub Street Boston, Davis Square’s new restaurant Amsterdam Falafel (in the old Diva Lounge space) will have a soft opening either Friday, June 29 or Saturday, June 30.

Union Square Farmers Market: Stop by the market from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, to pick up fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as sample locally made wines and purchase bread, sweets, meat, fish and much more. This week, Stir It Up Cuisine will be serving up tastes of its delicious hot pepper jelly! (Read more about and see photos from the Union Square Farmers Market.)

Boston Handmade: Union Square hosts Boston Handmade, an outdoor exhibition featuring locally made arts and crafts, from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday, June 30. More than 20 vendors will be selling ceramics, jewelry and handspun yarn, among many other things. Stroll the market to the sounds of live music and check out some of the demonstrations happening throughout the day.

FA.M.ily Fun Day: Come by Trum Field from noon- 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, to participate in FA.M.ily Fun Day. The event, sponsored by the Sloane FA.M.ily, will feature a free barbecue, children’s activities, watermelon eating contests, face painting, music and much more.

Pool Opening: Dilboy Memorial Swimming and Wading Pool officially opens for the summer on Sunday, July 1, and the timing couldn’t be more perfect! With temperatures soaring, it’s a great time to head to the pool to cool off. Dilboy, located on Alewife Brook Parkway, is open from July 1-August 24, Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Bonus: Hitting the pool can keep you cool and help you stay fit this summer!

The Davis Flea: Davis Square is hosting a flea market on Sundays during the summer from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. where you can buy vintage and antique goods, clothing, jewelry and much more. You never know what treasures may be waiting for you!
