One year ago today I sat at my computer and hit publish on this post welcoming the world to the Somerville Beat. I was nervous and excited to launch the site, which had been brewing in my mind for months. Though I wasn’t sure anyone would want to read it, I was deeply passionate about the project.
And then the reviews started coming in. Over time, the Beat gained more and more readers, Facebook fans and Twitter followers. We started accepting advertising and redesigned the site to make the experience better for you, our readers. Along the way I met so many incredible Somervillians, many of whom I’m now lucky enough to call my friends. And I decided to call Somerville home for a long time.
The last year has been a wild ride and I can’t wait to see what the next one has in store. I’ve got plans for an email newsletter, a revamped advertising program and possibly taking on some contributors. And of course, I’ll continue writing about all of the amazing things happening in this city we all love so much.
Today I want to thank all of the people who have advertised on the Beat. Your support means so much. And I want to say thanks to all of you, the Beat’s readers. You’re the reason for this site.
So happy birthday to the Beat and may we celebrate many more!
