Harvest Fest 2012: Local is for Lovers

A hurricane may be bearing down on us now, but Saturday was a picture-perfect fall day here in Somerville. It was made even better by Somerville Local First’s Harvest Fest, a celebration of the things that make this town great.

There was locally brewed beer from Somerville-based Pretty Things and Slumbrew, as well as Blue Hills Brewery, Berkshire Brewing Company, Clown Shoes, Mayflower, Narragansett, John Harvard’s Brewhouse and Rapscallion. Tower Root Beer made an appearance too.

Local restaurants like Eat at Jumbo’s, Pescatore, True Grounds, P.J. Ryan’s, Foundry/Saloon, Olde Magoun’s Saloon, Arts at the Armory Cafe and Daddy Jones (opening this Thursday) were dishing out delectable samples of their fare. City Chicks and Cuisine en Locale showcased their cooking talents with caramel corn and pickled vegetables.

Somervillens showed off their creativity with costumes that ranged from “binders full of women” to movie characters. And the DJ spun fun tunes all night, even playing more Hall and Oates after several audience requests.

It was nice to meet some of you on Saturday night (thanks for saying hi)! And I hope you all had a fun time celebrating Somerville.

P.S. Did you dress up for Halloween this weekend? Tell us about your costume and enter to win two tickets to this Friday’s ONCE de los Muertos all you can eat, all local MassMex dinner and dancing fiesta at the Armory!
