Weekend 2.8-2.10: Snow Days

Happy Weekend Somerville! Many more events for the weekend have been canceled, so I’ve updated the listings below to reflect that. Though the two snow play events, one in Union and one in Davis, are still on. I hope you’re all staying safe and warm during the storm!

This post is brought to you by The Book Shop

The Book Shop (694 Broadway) in Ball Square has had to cancel its event with bestselling author Chuck Hogan for this Sunday, but it will be rescheduled for a later date.

The majority of the events for tonight have been canceled or re-scheduled and it looks like the snow will be coming down hard by evening, so the best thing to do is probably to stay inside where it’s cozy.

However, the hefty dose of snow we’re getting today and tomorrow could make for some killer ski and snowboard conditions, so if you like to hit the slopes, this may be the perfect weekend to shred (as long as the roads are cleared). Check out my posts on three mountains in White Mountains and three mountains closer to home to decide where to head during the next few days. Stay safe and have fun out there!

Winter Farmers Market: The Winter Farmers Market is canceled this Saturday. It will re-open next weekend and be open every week through April 13 from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Arts at the Armory (191 Highland Ave.).

Snowmandito Party: Head to Seven Hills Park in Davis Square at noon on Saturday for an afternoon of snow people building. Bring carrots, old scarves, corncob pipes and any other materials you have around to help build snow men, snow women, snow children and even snow pets!

Union Square Snow Day: Artisan’s Asylum isn’t letting the snow get them down, in fact, they’ve organized a big outdoor snow play day on Saturday. Head to Union Square around 1 p.m. for an afternoon of music, hot chocolate and fun in the snow. Bundle up and bring your shovels and buckets to help build snow forts, snow people and more! Note that this event is weather-permitting.

Art Exhibit Opening Canceled: Come to the Washington Street Art Center (321 Washington St.) on Saturday from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. for the opening of an exhibit of photographs by Matthew Corcoran. You can see the show each Saturday in February from noon-4 p.m. and the Art Center will host a closing reception on February 23 at 7 p.m.

Local is for Lovers 2.0: Head to Arts at the Armory (191 Highland Ave.) on Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. to shop local for your someone special! Local is for Lovers 2.0 features more than 30 vendors selling everything from coffee and donuts to letterpress posters and jewelry. There will be entertainment for the kids provided by Knucklebones and live music throughout the day. The market has been canceled.

Author Event Canceled: The Book Shop (694 Broadway) in Ball Square has had to cancel its event with bestselling author Chuck Hogan for this Sunday, but it will be rescheduled for a later date.

PICNIC Closing Reception: The Nave Gallery Annex in Davis Square (53 Chester St.) has moved its closing reception for its first exhibit, PICNIC, to Monday from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. There will be an auction for the “Preserving Summer” project to keep the annex space going. Pie will be served and the first 25 attendees will receive a gift from Cuppow.

P.S. Here’s a refresher on Somerville snow emergency procedures, including shoveling, plowing and ticketing information. Stay safe out there everyone!
