After what has felt like the longest winter ever, we got a taste of spring this week and it was oh so sweet. The weekend looks a bit dreary, but there are plenty of fun events happening in Somerville to cheer you up. Start by celebrating St. Patrick’s Day early with Irish dishes, have your pie and eat it too for Pi Day and get cultured with art and music shows. That and more can be found below and on our Calendar of Events.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day: Show your Irish pride at Olde Magoun’s Saloon and Brass Union, which will both be offering special menus in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Try a Irish boiled bacon dinner at Magoun’s or a corned beef sandwich paired with an Irish-themed cocktail at Brass from now through Tuesday.
Pi(e) Day: There are few more delicious holidays than Pi(e) Day and both 3 Little Figs and Cuisine en Locale are celebrating with tasty treats. 3 Little Figs will be serving Strawberry RooBarb & Apple Cheddar slab pie (pictured above) with house-made vanilla ice cream and affogatos during the day. And at night, Cuisine en Locale is hosting a family-friendly farmer and customer appreciation party with live music, food, drinks and lots and lots of pie.
Seed Starting Extravaganza: Winter is on its way out, which means it’s time to prepare for spring planting. Get ready for what’s to come when you check out the new greenhouse and start some seeds at Parts and Crafts on Saturday afternoon.
A Fabled Hare and a March Tale Opening Reception: Check out the latest show at the Washington Street Art Center on Saturday night during the opening reception for A Fabled Hare and a March Tale. The multimedia exhibit celebrates the month of March and two of its most famous symbols: the wild weather and the hare.
Motion, Memory Opening Reception: Take in the Motion, Memory show during the opening reception at Brickbottom Gallery on Sunday afternoon. The exhibit features the work of three artists who combine photography with painting or printmaking.
Live Music: Wind down the weekend with live music on Sunday evening. Journeys in Sound presents “international musicians leading groups with multinational band members” at the Armory. And Jazz at The Green Room presents the Russ Gershon Trio featuring Rick McLaughlin and Oscar Suchanek in Union Square.
