For some reason, most of this weekend’s activities seemed centered around the consumption of great local beers and wines, which seems fitting after last night’s inaugural Swirl & Slice market. I’m headed to the Hyper-Local Craft Brew Tasting on Saturday night and I’m eagerly awaiting sampling the delicious regional brews. The Union Square Farmers Market on Saturday morning should also have lots of yummy late spring and early summer fruits and vegetables in addition to cookies, wine and lots more!
Ball Square Wine and Beer Tasting: Kick off the weekend on Friday, June 15, by sampling tastes of great wines presented by Andrea Alexander of Classic Wines from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and then try some of Berkshire Brewing Company’s delicious beers from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at Ball Square Fines Wines & Liquors.
Union Square Farmers Market: The number of late spring and early summer fruits and veggies that are ripening grows each day and the Saturday market will have lots of them! Strawberries, garlic scapes, greens of all kinds and much more are in season right now. Head to Union Square from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on June 16 to pick up fresh, local, seasonal fruits and veggies and much more, like Italian treats from Belmont-based Sfolia Bakery and wine from Lincoln-based Turtle Creek Winery.
6th Annual Anna’s Walqueria: Ever wanted to visit all six Anna’s locations in one day? Well now you can and for a good cause! This Saturday, June 16, Anna’s hosts it’s annual half marathon walk-a-thon to benefit The Home for Little Wanderers. Things kick off at 10:30 a.m. at 1412 Beacon St. in Brookline (eventually the walk stops at the Davis Square Anna’s). There will be lots of free food and drinks and fun along the 13-mile loop course.
Hyper-Local Craft Brew Tasting: This Saturday, June 16, local beer enthusiasts will descend on the Armory on Highland Ave. to sample brews, wines, cordials and mead from regional producers. The Hyper-Local Craft Brew Tasting is set to highlight local brews and more made using local ingredients. Attendees will get to sample tastes from breweries based right here in town like Night Shift Brewing and Somerville Brewing Company, as well as those slightly further afield, like Blue Hills Brewery and Cape Ann Brewing Company, among many others. The event has two sessions (3 p.m. or 7 p.m.) and tickets are $30.
Pretty Things Annual St. Botolph’s Day Pub Crawl: Somerville-based Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project will be hosting its annual St. Botolph’s Day pub crawl on Sunday, June 17. The event kicks off at the Meadhall in Kendall Square at 5 p.m. Other stops may include Firebrand Saints, Area Four and Cambridge Brewing Company (all in Kendall). Follow Pretty Things on Twitter to see where they’re drinking and meet up with the crew!
